Duchesne Hockey Loses Heartbreaker to Liberty

Updated on 09/05/2024

The Duchesne Hockey Team lost a hard fought, close game to Liberty High School Wednesday Night at Wentzville Ice Arena.  In the first period, Liberty twice took a one goal lead only to be answered by goals from Nick Morgan and Peyton Evans.  That 2-2 tie continued all of the way through the second period with neither team scoring.  In the third period, Liberty took a two goal lead until Senior Logan Kelsey scored with 1:47 to play.  The finish was very exciting as Duchesne took several shots in the final ten seconds to try and tie it up, but ended up one goal short when the buzzer sounded.  Down three key players, the Duchesne Freshmen stepped up and played a solid game to help keep them in it until the end.  Sophomore Goalie Dillon Kuhn also made several key saves throughout the entire game to keep the score close all game.  Where Duchesne Hockey could use some support is from their student classmates.  Liberty students out-attended Duchesne roughly 60-2 in this game (Thank you Hannah Rimmey and Katie Hill).  We encourage all of our students to come and watch the excitement and speed of Duchesne Hockey.  Next game will be on Thursday, Oct. 12 - time and opponent to be announced in the coming days.

Duchesne Hockey Drops Final Pre-Season Game to St. Dom

Updated on 09/05/2024

Despite a valient effort in their final pre-season Ice Hockey game in the St. Chuck Cup, the Pioneers lost to St. Dominic 5-2.  The excitement started early when Duchesne scored in the first eleven seconds of the game when Senior Logan Kelsey got the puck off of the facebook and passed to Junior Nick Morgan who got the puck ahead of all of the St. Dominic defense and scored.  The score stayed that way until late in the first period when St. Dominic evened it up.  The Crusaders then got two goals in the 2nd Period to take a 3-1 lead into the third.  In the third, Freshman Dylan Slattery scored his first goal off of assists from Junior Carson Kuhn and Freshman Austin Schoene to get the game within a goal.  St. Dominic got a goal of their own later in the 3rd period to make the score 4-2.  An attempt to pull the our goalie with 2:00 left was unsuccessful with St. Dominic netting an empty net goal to make the score 5-2 which would be the final score.  Sophomore Goalie Dillon Kuhn, despite the loss, recorded 31 saves on 35 shots.

Next action for Duchesne will be the Blue vs. White Scrimmage this Sunday, Oct. 22, at 7:10pm at Wentzville Ice Arena.  The regular season schedule for Duchesne Ice Hockey will be announced by the end of October.

Duchesne Hockey Wins Home Opener versus Timberland HS

Updated on 09/05/2024

Thanks to two short-handed goals late in the game, The Duchesne Hockey Team sealed their first victory of the regular season and home opener game against Wentzville Timberland High School 6-3.  Scoring started in the first period when Junior Carson Kuhn scored with 4:48 left in the first period off of an assist from Senior Logan Kelsey.  Timberland tied the score 1-1 early in the second until Freshman Will Hollenkamp scored off of an assist from Junior Carson Kuhn to make the score 2-1.  One minute and thirteen seconds later, Freshman Dylan Slattery scored off of a rebound shot by Junior Nick Morgan to make the score 3-1.  Timberland bounced back and tied the score 3-3 early in the third period, but with 4:27 left in the game, Sophomore Liam Daleo scored a short handed goal off of a Nick Morgan pass to make the score 4-3.  Just moments later, Nick Morgan scored another short handed goal to make the score 5-3.  Morgan would add an empty netter with 13 seconds left in the game to make the final score 6-3.  Sophomore Goalie Dillon Kuhn saw 43 shots during the game, saving 40 of them for a 93% save percentage.  The Duchesne students made a great showing and the DHS Hockey Cheerleaders kept the team spirit high throughout the game.  Next action for hockey is Friday night, Nov. 10 at 7:15pm at Wentzville Ice Arena versus Liberty High School and then Saturday night, Nov. 11 at 8:00pm at St. Peter's RecPlex versus Holt High School.  Please come out and catch some fun games this weekend.

Duchesne Hockey "Liberates" Liberty High School 5-2

Updated on 09/05/2024

This game may have been a home game for Liberty on the schedule, but it had all of the looks of a home game for Duchesne as the DHS Students and families came and packed the stands and far outnumbered the Liberty fans.  Duchesne Junior Carson Kuhn opened up the scoring just 4:17 into the game off of an assist from Sophomore Liam Daleo.  Thirty seconds into the second period, Junior Nick Morgan scored to make it 2-0.  Forty seconds into the third period, Senior Logan Kelsey scored off of a Freshman Dylan Slattery assist to make it 3-0 and then Junior Carson Kuhn, with his second goal of the night, made it 4-0 off of an assist from Nick Morgan.  Sophomore goalie Dillon Kuhn had a shutout going until 3:29 left in the game when Liberty scored two quick goals to make it interesting, but with 1:22 left in the game, Junior Nick Morgan scored an empty netter which made the final score 5-2.  Goalie Dillon Kuhn ended the night with 26 saves off of 28 shots for a 93% save percentage including a pair of breakaway saves against the two best players for Liberty.  The Duchesne Hockey Cheerleaders and students kept the momentum going throughout the game and the DHS Hockey team wants to give a huge shout out to everyone that came out and watched this game.

Duchesne Hockey Halts Holt HS With 7-3 Win

Updated on 09/05/2024

Duchesne Hockey ended their weekend 2-0 after a decisive 7-3 victory over Holt High School on Saturday Night, Nov. 11.  Despite the final score, this one was close until late in the third period.  Duchesne got on the board first when Freshman Austin Schoene scored his first goal of the season off of an assist from Freshman Alex Messner.  A few minutes later, Holt tied the score 1-1 on a shorthanded goal.  However, Freshman Max Hackmann scored to make it 2-1 later in the first period off of a Junior Lucas Daleo assist.  In the second period, Holt again tied the score 2-2 before Junior Nick Morgan scored with 1:53 left in the second period to make the score 3-2.  Four minutes into the third period, Nick Morgan scored again to make the score 4-2, but late in the third period, Holt scored again to get within a goal.  However, the final 2:28 of the game saw three different goals from three different Duchesne players to take away the win.  Nick Morgan scored first off of a Ryan Adkerson assist for a hat trick on the night.  Then, Junior Carson Kuhn scored an empty netter from mid-ice off of an assist from Auggie Lee to seal the victory.  However, Junior Lucas Daleo sailed down the ice with the puck off of a Freshman Dylan Slattery assist and with one second left in the game, scored the 7th goal to make the final score 7-3.  Senior goalie Asher Olsen saw 28 shots and made 25 saves for an 89% save percentage.  Once again, the Duchesne Hockey Cheerleaders and the Duchesne students made this game fun and exciting.  The students lined up along the RecPlex glass all night and celebrated every Duchesne goal and hung around to celebrate after the game as well.  The win gives Duchesne a 3-1 record on the young season with a big test coming this Friday, Nov. 17, against the reigning Wickenheiser Cup State Champions, Ft. Zumwalt West at Wentzville Ice Arena at 9:00pm.  FZW typically brings a large student contingent, so we need all of our students to show up for this contest.  We appreciate your growing support this season!!

Duchesne Hockey Takes on Defending Wick Cup Champs Friday

Updated on 09/05/2024

The Duchesne Hockey Team (3-1-0) will take on Ft. Zumwalt West (1-2-0) on Friday Night, Nov. 17, at 9:00pm at Wentzville Ice Arena.  Ft. Zumwalt West is the defending Wickenheiser Cup State Champion from last season and will be looking to get back in the win column after a loss to Ladue earlier in the week.  Duchesne currently sits atop the St. Charles Division along with St. Dominic with six points.  Duchesne is also currently one of the top scoring teams in all of Mid-States Hockey with 21 goals scored in four games.  After their season opening loss to MICDS, Duchesne has gone on to win their next three games in a row to achieve their 3-1 record.  Duchesne will look to their goal leaders Nick Morgan (8 goals), Carson Kuhn (4 goals), and Logan Kelsey (3 goals) to stay atop the Mid-States scoring lead.  Four Freshman have also contributed goals this season.  Duchesne's defense and goalies have allowed 14 goals for a 3.5 GAA on the season.  The student theme for Friday night's game is "Face Paint".  DHS Students are also reminded that for each game they attend this season, they are entered into a drawing for a 55" TV that will be given away at the end of the season.  The students have already been a motivating factor for the team this season.  We look forward to seeing everyone there Friday Night."

Duchesne Hockey - Thanksgiving Week Action

Updated on 09/05/2024

They may be off school, but the Duchesne Hockey Team has three games over five days during Thanksgiving Break and we would love to see our students and fans at each and every game.

Starting on Monday Night (tonight), Nov. 20, Duchesne (3-2-0) will host Liberty High School (2-2-0) at Queeny Park Ice Rink at 8:15pm.  Duchesne previously played against Liberty and won 5-2 on Nov. 10.  However, Liberty is coming off of back to back wins and Duchesne is coming off of a 7-1 loss at the hands of the defending Wick Cup Champions, Ft. Zumwalt West.  The DHS Hockey Team would like to thank our Hockey Cheerleaders who, despite down several goals to FZW, still kept cheering and keeping the fans and students enthusiastic.  We appreciate your support!

The very next night we will play the first ever St. Charles Catholic Cup game against our St. Charles Catholic High School rival, St. Dominic.  This is the first game in what will become an annual tradition between the two schools where each year the winner will take home a traveling trophy that was created for the event.  St. Dominic will bring a 4-0 record into the night as they sit alone atop the St. Charles Division.  Duchesne will look to take home the Catholic Cup and also hand St. Dom their first loss of the season.  This game will be Tuesday Night, Nov. 21 at 8:30pm at Wentzville Ice Arena.  Since this game is against St. Dom, student turnout will be crucial.

Finally, on Friday evening, Nov. 24 at 7:45pm at the St. Peters RecPlex, Duchesne will take on Ft. Zumwalt North who currently have a record of 1-2-0 but are a much more improved team from last season and will be looking to improve their record year over year.

Thanks to great student turnouts at several games, there are many students who have multiple entries for the 55" TV Giveaway at the end of the season.  The three games during Thanksgiving Week will give every student the opportunity to get three more entries into that drawing.  If you've been to any of the games this season, you know how much fun they are.  We hope to see you all in the stands this week!

DHS Hockey Plays Tonight in First Ever St. Charles Catholic Cup

Updated on 09/05/2024

Duchesne Hockey has been around for a while, but St. Dominic is only in their second year of having their own hockey team.  With the two schools being the only two Catholic High Schools in St. Charles County, a discussion between the two programs led to what will become an annual tradition - The St. Charles Catholic Cup.  Each season, the teams play each other twice in regular season play.  One of those games will be chosen each year to be the St. Charles Catholic Cup game.  The game features a traveling trophy - the winner each year will lay claim to the trophy and take it back to their school until the following year.  The inaugural game will be played tonight, Nov. 21, at 8:30pm at Wentzville Ice Arena and it should be a good one.  Duchesne (3-3) looks to put an end to St. Dominic's 4-0 start to their season and lay claim to the first ever St. Charles Catholic Cup Trophy.  Please come out and show your support for Duchesne Hockey versus our Catholic School rivals tonight and be prepared to be loud.

DHS Hockey Looks to "Right the Ship" Against FH Central

Updated on 09/05/2024

Tonight, Dec. 1, the Duchesne Pioneer Hockey Team looks to get back in the win column versus Francis Howell Central High School at 9:30pm at the St. Peter's RecPlex.  After a 3-1 start to the season, the hockey team has hit a rough patch which started with a defeat at the hands of the current Wickenheiser State Cup Champions FZ West and then four other losses over a ten day span in which five games were played - more than any other team in the Mid-States Conference over the Thanksgiving Break.  The Pioneers have a chance to get back in the win column tonight versus a 1-5 FH Central Team that has also dropped their last five straight games.  Duchesne will look to their top goal scorers Nick Morgan, Carson Kuhn, and Liam Daleo to put pucks in the net.  They will also rely heavily on Sophomore Goalie Dillon Kuhn and top defenders Lucas Daleo, Auggie Lee, Ryan Adkerson, and Max Bomerschein to keep pucks out of the net on the opposite side.

Students attending tonight's game are reminded to make sure they put in their entry for the 55" TV Giveaway at the end of the season.  Each game they attend, they receive an entry for the drawing.  Please see the Duchesne Hockey Cheerleaders at the game for your entry ticket.  The DHS Hockey Team truly appreciates the Cheerleaders and Students support during Thanksgiving Week as many students attended the games.

We look forward to seeing crowded stands tonight!  See you there!

Late Comeback Falls Short Against FHC - Take on Timberland Tonight

Updated on 09/05/2024

Despite being down 4-0 in the third period against Francis Howell Central last Friday Night, The Duchesne Hockey team battled back with three goals late in the game, but fell short with a 5-3 loss.  The first goal came from Nick Morgan off of an assist from Carson Kuhn.  Three minutes later, Nick returned the favor to Carson with a pass to the left side that Kuhn buried to make the score 4-2.  Despite a FH goal with 37 seconds left in the game, Nick Morgan again scored just six seconds later to make the score 5-3.  However, time was the enemy as 5-3 was the final score.

Tonight, Dec. 5, Duchesne looks to rebound in a game against Timberland High School who Duchesne defeated earlier in the season 6-3.  That game saw six goals from five different Duchesne players, including the first goals ever for Freshmen Dylan Slattery and Will Hollenkamp.  Goals were also scored by Nick Morgan (2), Carson Kuhn, and Liam Daleo.  That game also saw Sophomore Goalie Dillon Kuhn stop 40 shots on 43 attempts for a 93% save percentage.  He will return to the net for tonight's game in the rematch.

After a busy November, the hockey team gets a slightly lighter load in December with just four more games after tonight's game and then will wrap up their season in January with five games - the final game of the regular season coming on Jan. 23.  Tournament play begins after that weekend.

The student turnout for the games has been fantastic and the Duchesne Hockey Cheerleaders have been at each and every game leading the parents and students in cheers throughout the game.  We look to see more of that for tonight's matchup against Timberland.  Game time is 8:30pm at Wentzville Ice Arena.  Go Pioneer Hockey!!!

DHS Hockey Back in Action Saturday Night, Dec. 16

Updated on 09/05/2024

After a much needed eleven day break in the action, the Duchesne Hockey Club is back in action this Saturday night, Dec. 16, at 8:45pm at the St. Peter's RecPlex.  They will face off against Ft. Zumwalt East High School in a rematch of a 4-0 defeat that came on the tail end of five games played over an eleven day period in late November.  The Pioneers will look to avenge that defeat on Saturday.

The "TBL Line" (in reference to their club team, The Twin Bridges Lightning), which contains three of the leading scorers on the team, will look to get on the board early and often against the FZE goaltending.  The Pioneers have also added some defensive support to their roster with the addition of Freshman Brendan Birkenmeier.  He will add some support to seasoned defensive veterans Lucas Daleo, Auggie Lee, Max Bomerschein, and Ryan Adkerson as well as Freshman Hudson Bomerschein.

Although the break was needed to regroup for the second half of the season, the Pioneer's are anxious to get back on the ice and also look forward to the continued support of the Duchesne Hockey Cheerleaders and the DHS students who have been consistently showing up for the games.  As a reminder, there are nine regular season games remaining where students can come to the game and get their name entered into the drawing for a 55inch TV that will be given away at the end of the season.  See the DHS Hockey Cheerleaders for your contest entry at the game.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the RecPlex Saturday Night!

Duchesne Hockey Honors Seniors Friday Night

Updated on 09/05/2024

Friday Night, Jan. 5, The Duchesne Hockey Club will be honoring their senior athletes prior to the game against our Catholic School Rival, St. Dominic.  Senior Captain Logan Kelsey, Senior Goalie Asher Olson, and Senior Hockey Cheerleader Katie Hill will all be recognized at an event at the St. Peter's RecPlex prior to the game.  They will also be recognized on the ice just prior to the game start.  The event will begin at 8:30pm upstairs at RecPlex South with the game following at 9:30pm.

Duchesne Hockey has two games this weekend.  The first, as previously mentioned, will be Friday Night against St. Dominic.  On Saturday evening, Jan. 6 at 6:30pm, Duchesne will host Ft. Zumwalt North.  Both games are crucial division games that will potentially have Wickenheiser Cup Playoff implications.  Duchesne currently sits at 6th place in the St. Charles Division tied with Ft. Zumwalt North.  St. Dominic is currently in 2nd place in the division.

While the Duchesne team has had it's struggles after a 3-1 start, they have bounced back in recent games and played some good hockey against some very good teams.  They are 1-1-1 in their past three game with the loss coming againt Ft. Zumwalt West, the defending Wick Cup State Champions.  In that game, Duchesne held the lead three times against the defending champs, but FZ West came away with the win late in the third period with a final score of 5-4.

Duchesne is currently led by top point scorers Nick Morgan (18 goals, 6 assists), Carson Kuhn (8 goals, 8 assists), and Liam Daleo (6 goals, 5 assists).  Defensively, Duchesne is led by top defenders Lucas Daleo, Auggie Lee, Ryan Adkerson, and Max Bomerschein.  Goaltenders Asher Olson (84.8% Save Percentage, 5.43 Goal Against Avg) and Dillon Kuhn (85.1 Save Percentage, 3.92 GAA) will be tending the net in this weekends games.

Duchesne will get some additional help with two recent roster changes.  Friday nights game against St. Dominic will feature the return of Duchesne student Trenton Gebben-Thompson.  Trenton spent last semester playing in the EHL (Eastern Hockey League) in Pennsylvania, but made the decision to return to Duchesne for the second semester of school.  Freshman Brendan Birkenmeier was also added to the roster a few weeks ago after a roster spot opened up on the team.  Brendan has added his defensive skills to the team and has helped the overall defense improve in the past few games.  Their additions have come at a much needed time for Duchesne Hockey.

We look forward to seeing the stands full this weekend, especially to honor our Seniors on Friday Night.  Thank you to everyone who supports Duchesne Hockey!

Duchesne Hockey - Regular Season Wrapping Up

Following those final three games, Duchesne will find out more information regarding the post-season playoffs.  That information will be posted to the Athletics website.

Students are reminded that they are still able to get entries to the 55 inch TV giveaway that will take place once the season is over.  Every student that shows up to a game will receive an entry.  The more games you attend, the better your odds of winning.  Plus, you get to watch the most exciting, high energy sport there is - hockey!!

The student support this year has been one of our best ever and it is truly appreciated by the team.  We hope you will continue to come to the games the remainder of this season, and of course next season.

Go Pioneer Hockey!!!

Duchesne Hockey Playoff Schedule Announced

Updated on 09/05/2024

On Tuesday evening, the Ice Hockey playoff schedule was announced for all of the Mid-States Hockey Clubs for the 2024 Playoffs.  The Duchesne Hockey Club will be playing in the Founders Cup which will be an eight team bracket, split into two 4-team pools.  Each team will play three opponents in a round-robin format with the winners moving on to the next round of the playoffs.  Duchesne Hockey will have the following three games:

Friday, Feb.2 - Duchesne vs. FZ North - St. Peter's RecPlex @7:45pm

Saturday, Feb. 3 - Duchesne vs. Westminster Christian - Centene Ice Center @9:00pm

Wednesday, Feb. 7 - Duchesne vs. Holt - Centene Ice Center @9:40pm

Duchesne has played against all three of their opponent during the regular season and all three of these matchups should offer competitive outcomes.  Offensively, Duchesne has consistently been led by points leaders Nick Morgan (29), Carson Kuhn (19), and Liam Daleo (11).  Unfortunately, injury has landed Daleo on the injured list, but the return of Junior Trenton Gebben-Thompson at the semester break has helped to fill that void.  Several Freshman have also stepped up their roles on offense.

Defensively, Duchesne is led by upper classmen Lucas Daleo, Auggie Lee, Max Bomerschein, and Ryan Adkerson.  Finally, Netminders Dillon Kuhn (.869 Save Percentage) and Asher Olson (.838 Save Percentage) will continue to provide experience between the pipes in the upcoming games.

The student TV giveaway is also still in play.  For each student that comes to a playoff game, they will receive TWO entries for the end of season 55 inch TV giveaway.  Please see the Duchesne Hockey Cheerleaders at the game for your entry tickets.

Speaking of our Hockey Cheerleaders, it is important to note that only six teams in all of Mid-States Hockey (34 teams total) have a Hockey Cheerleading Squad, and Duchesne is very proud to be one of those teams.  Our cheerleaders have been with us through thick and thin this year and have always kept the students and fans engaged from the beginning to the end of every game.  We can't thank them enough for their dedication this season.

We look forward to see everyone at the upcoming playoff games!!
